As part of the Wszechnica Wiedzy project, a meeting was held in Milan with the association I Giovani x i Giovani to discuss their experience in promoting sports for people with disabilities as a form of social integration. The initiative is considered one of the most relevant best practices in the metropolitan area of Milan, combining grassroots engagement with institutional collaboration.
The objective of the session was to explore effective models for the social inclusion of persons with disabilities through sport. The discussion focused on the skills required to organise inclusive sports events, such as communication, adaptability and problem-solving. Participants also reflected on the importance of sustainable fundraising techniques and donor relationship management, which are essential for maintaining long-term programmes. Another key aspect of the meeting was the analysis of strategies for building partnerships with public institutions and schools, which play a crucial role in supporting inclusive initiatives. Finally, the association shared its experience in training and engaging volunteers, whose contribution is vital for the success and continuity of community-based activities.
The exchange provided a concrete example of how sport can become a platform for inclusion, empowerment and community development when supported by the right methodologies and values.
